Dear Conference Registrants:
It won’t be long now & we will all be together for a fabulous conference experience! The entire Conference Planning Team, The Minnesota Department of Corrections and the Association on Programs for Female Offenders plan on extending a warm welcome to all of you on behalf of 11th National Workshop on Adult & Juvenile Female Offenders!
We begin our conference Sunday night with a fun filled gala guaranteed to “clear the path” for play, laughter, learning and connecting with others. The Sunday reception, (appetizers & cash bar) & Welcome begins at 6:00 PM October 16. The entertainment is provided by the nationally renowned Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre, a Minnesota institution founded by Dudley Riggs in 1958 which carries the distinction as the longest-running satirical comedy theatre in the nation. Its alumni include some of the most well-known comedy writers and actors in film and television today - including Al Franken (Saturday Night Live), Louie Anderson, Pat Proft (writer, The Naked Gun, Police Academy, Bachelor Party, Scary Movie), Penn & Teller, and Mo Collins (MAD TV), to name a few. In addition to its theater in Minneapolis, the Brave New Workshop shares their unique brand of entertainment at more than 150 events across the globe each year. Their presentation promises to be rollicking good fun so please plan on attending!!
Bloomington, Minnesota, is the “Third Twin City” (to Minneapolis and St. Paul) and is home to the largest indoor retail mall in the United States, the Mall of America. With its shopping and entertainment choices, along with Camp Snoopy, the Mall of America is a premier attraction for you to explore during your stay in Minnesota.
Accommodations and training sites are being held at the Bloomington Airport Marriott, where you will find the hospitality first-rate and service truly extraordinary.
The Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis are rich in culture, offering first-rate theater productions, museums and art galleries as well as eclectic restaurants, all of which will make your stay pleasant and entertaining.
An exceptional array of relevant educational training sessions and multi-cultural presentations have been planned. We trust this conference will provide you with an important opportunity to network, receive and share information about promising and effective strategies in dealing with female offenders, and give you many, many ideas and resources to take home with you. You may sign up for tours of the women’s prison at Shakopee or the Hennepin County (Minneapolis) drug court on Monday morning October 17th near the registration desk.
We look forward to seeing you all soon & best wishes for a successful and productive conference experience!
Sincerely,
Anne McDiarmid
