Your Career in Corrections

The Department of Corrections employs individuals in a wide variety of positions, from Accounting Officers to Registered Nurses and Corrections Officers to Special Teachers.  We are committed to retaining well-qualified employees and accomplish this by attempting to promote from within whenever possible.

Where We're Located
The Department of Corrections operates ten correctional facilities for adult and juvenile offenders.  Facilities are located in Faribault, Lino Lakes, Moose Lake/Willow River, Oak Park Heights, Red Wing, Rush City, Shakopee, St. Cloud, Stillwater and Togo.

Community Services offices are located throughout Minnesota.  Department probation officers (Corrections Agents) and Sentencing to Service Crew Leaders supervise many offenders in the community.

The central office in St. Paul houses administrative and program development functions including Fiscal Services, Human Resources and Information Technology.

We're Committed to Diversity!
The Department of Corrections is committed to creating and maintaining a work environment where all employees feel valued, safe, and free from harassment of any kind.  It's our highest priority to make sure that all employees and potential employees have equal access to opportunities for employment, assignments, and promotion.  All new employees participate in diversity training.

Training
We'll make sure you have the training and skills you need to do your job effectively and professionally.  All new staff attend a department orientation.  Corrections officers and other staff who have direct contact with offenders attend an intensive, paid pre-service academy with training related to all aspects of correctional work.

Comprehensive Benefits Package
The State of Minnesota provides its employees with a competitive and comprehensive benefits package. Employee benefits are negotiated through the collective bargaining process, and the Minnesota Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) administers many of the employee benefits.  For an overview of the benefits provided to state employees, click here

Included in the benefits provided to state employees is a retirement plan with employer and employee contributions, click here for more detailed information. Several of the collective bargaining agreements provide employer paid insurance benefits for state retirees.
