Corrections Security Caseworker
Open to Senior-level Undergraduates and Graduate Level Students

Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility – Stillwater

MCF-STW Overview: MCF-STW was built in 1914 and is the state's largest close-security facility for adult male felons.  Average daily population is 1,277 and full-time staff size is approximately 550.  The facility's two primary missions are to protect the public by incarcerating serious, chronic and dangerous offenders and to provide industrial, academic, vocation and rehabilitative opportunities to inmates.
Position Description

Description:  Intern will respond to the spiritual and religious needs of the offender population.  Intern will assist Chaplain to provide religious services and work with offender population to counsel individual offenders as needed. This position requires that the intern be able to deliver sermons and classroom learning experiences assisted under the supervision of the Chaplain.

Supervision:  The intern will be supervised by the MCF-Stillwater Chaplain.

Requirements: Senior Theology Major at a local college or enrolled in a Master of Divinity program currently working on a degree from a seminary.  Experience performing independent pastoral care and counseling.  Experience working within a faith community.

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework in religious studies, theology and/or multi-cultural/diversity.
Ability to lead worship services.
Excellent communication skill and presentation skills to be able to address the diversity of religious expressions presented in prison setting.
Ability to plan, coordinate and implement work without direct supervision.
Skilled in Outlook, Internet and Microsoft Office Word and Excel spreadsheets.
Skill to provide pastoral care and counseling to offenders in a private and confidential manner.
Ability to respond to crisis situations and offenders urgent spiritual needs.

Preferred Qualification: Completion of a one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).  Knowledge of diversity in religious practices and traditions.
Experience in delivering training to adult learners in a religious setting.  Experience delivering sermons to religious groups.

Work Hours:  Depends on availability Sunday through Saturday.

Note:  This internship is unpaid
