Adult Basic Education Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) –Faribault MCF-Faribault is a medium custody facility that houses adult males. The facility has 6 living units and maintains an average of 2,000 inmates. The role of the facility is to prepare offenders for release to lower custody facilities or community settings. The facility offers work, vocational, and academic programs, and chemical and drug treatment to offenders. Internship Description: Intern will assist licensed instructors in providing classroom instruction to offender students in reading, math, grammar, writing, basic computer skills, work related skills, pre-GED preparation, and GED skills. Intern will assist instructors in developing and presenting a variety of learning techniques to meet individual student needs and assist in delivering classroom instruction on an individual basis as determined by student need and learning style. Intern will also assist in providing instruction to enhance inmate social and occupation skills and perform other related duties as needed. This is a unique opportunity in which the internship experience will expose the intern to educational learning in a closed environment in which students progress at their own pace and the instructor must develop and utilize a variety of learning tools to meet the needs of students at all levels. Supervision: Interns will be assigned to the Education Unit and supervised by a licensed instructor. Requirements: The intern must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program that offers course credit for internships. Applicants should have an interest in corrections and adult education and be able to adapt to working in a closed environment. Knowledge of computers is also essential.
