Corrections Security Caseworker Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility – Red Wing MCF-Red Wing, constructed in 1889, is a minimum-security facility serving approximately 130 juvenile males. Offenders participate in the facility’s behavioral/cognitive intervention program and in psycho-educational programs related to anger management, moral reasoning, and social skill development. Educational programming is individualized in accordance with achievement levels and special needs. Internship Description: Experience the daily operations of the facility, and under close staff supervision, interact with staff and residents within the educational, security and treatment programs. Participate in staffings, individual, and group counseling. Observe and report resident’s behavior to other staff members. Experience group management techniques, assessments, substance abuse counseling, cognitive skills training sessions, restorative justice practices, limit setting, report writing, transition services and planning, group dynamics and file management. Emphasis: Internships are available with an emphasis on sex offender treatment, substance abuse treatment, transition planning, or cognitive behavioral treatment. Supervision: Interns will be assigned to work closely with a supervising case manager in one of the living units. Requirements: Interns must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program that offers course credit for internships. Applicants should have completed introductory course work in criminal justice, criminology, corrections, psychology, sociology, social work or related field. An interview with the MCF-RW Program Director or his designee is required, and applicants must give written permission for a routine criminal history screening. Length of Internship: 1 semester, negotiable and flexible, minimum of 400 hours Application priority deadline date: Note: This internship is unpaid Applications will be accepted after these dates until positions are filled
