Corrections Security Caseworker Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Rush City MCF-Rush City opened in 2000 and is the state's newest, close-security facility for adult male felons. Rush City is a double-bunked facility with an average daily population of 990 offenders and full-time staff of approximately 300. The facility's two primary missions are to protect the public by incarcerating serious, chronic and dangerous offenders and to provide academic, vocational and rehabilitative opportunities to inmates. Internship Description: The intern will obtain knowledge and understanding of how the criminal justice system works in general, specifically related to the area of corrections. The intern will complete initial inmate assessments; observe and report on inmate behavior; prepare inmate release plans; and identify inmate classification level. An intern will also investigate inmate incompatibility issues; participate in the review of inmate programming needs; complete written reports on inmates’ participation in facility programming; and learn the facility’s security procedures. Note: This internship is unpaid. Supervision: Interns will be supervised by a Corrections Security Caseworker. Requirements: Interns must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program, which offers course credit for internships. Applicants should have completed introductory course work in criminal justice, criminology, corrections, psychology, sociology, social work or related field. Interns must clear a security background check and follow department policies and procedures. Length of Internship: One semester, negotiable and flexible.
