Discipline Unit Intern Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Rush City MCF-Rush City opened in 2000 and is the state's newest, close-security facility for adult male felons. Rush City is a double-bunked facility with an average daily population of 990 offenders and full-time staff of approximately 300. The facility's two primary missions are to protect the public by incarcerating serious, chronic and dangerous offenders and to provide academic, vocational and rehabilitative opportunities to inmates. Internship Description: The intern will obtain knowledge and understanding of how the criminal justice system works in general, specifically related to the area of corrections. The intern will benefit from this experience by learning investigative techniques within a correctional environment in the area of institution rule violations. All interns will be trained on the policies and procedures of the correctional facility. Primary duties will be assisting with investigations, charges and hearings. Note: This internship is unpaid. Supervision: Interns will be supervised by the Discipline Unit Supervisor. Requirements: Interns must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program, which offers course credit for internships. Must have computer software skills and excellent organizational, communication and writing skills. Must be at least a second year student and have completed course work in law enforcement, criminal justice, criminal law, and psychology. The intern must clear a security background check and follow department policies and procedures. Length of Internship: 12 weeks or one semester. At least 20 hours per week desired (is flexible). Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Application priority deadline date: Note: This internship is unpaid Applications will be accepted after these dates until positions are filled
