| Transition Department/Restorative Justice Intern Open to Upper-level Undergraduate Students Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Shakopee MCF-Shakopee is the only prison in Minnesota for adult females offenders who have been committed to the Commissioner of Corrections. Offender population is approximately 500, which included all custody levels. Gender-specific programming with an emphasis on restorative justice and building offender competencies is a priority. Internship Description: The intern will gain a general understanding of the functioning and operation of a correctional facility, with particular focus on security needs and special issues of incarcerated women. Interns will have the opportunity to work with female offenders both individually and in a group setting on issues pertaining to the offender's re-entry into the community. Interns will also work closely with community agencies, such as half-way houses and treatment centers to obtain current information for offenders' release plan. Opportunities exist for interns to design a restorative justice project with offenders and work with offenders on restorative justice practices. These practices include: victim offender dialogues, circle processes, apology letters, and community service work. Supervision: Interns will be supervised by the Corrections Transition Program Coordinator. Requirements: Interns should be upper-level undergraduate students (generally seniors) or upper-level undegraduate students in corrections, social work or a related field at an accredited college or university which offers course credit for internships. All interns must clear a security check.
