Safety and Health Officer Intern
Open to Upper-level Undergraduate Students

Location: Minnesota Correctional Facility-Faribault

MCF-Faribault is a medium custody facility that houses adult males. The facility has 6 living units and maintains an average of 2,000 inmates.  The role of the facility is to prepare offenders for release to lower custody facilities or community settings. The facility offers work, vocational, and academic programs, and chemical and drug treatment to offenders. 

Internship Description: The intern will assist in providing professional and technical services to the Safety and Health Office.  Participate in ensuring health and safety standards are maintained by OSHA standards, NFPA Life Safety codes, Health Department standards, and Department of Corrections policies and procedures. Become involved in activities throughout the facility such as, inspections, incident investigation, and staff training.

Supervision:  Interns will be supervised by the Safety and Health Administrator.

Requirements:  The intern must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program which offers course credit for internships.    Interns should have completed introductory course work in occupational safety and health, industry safety/loss control, accident investigation, control and prevention of accidents, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste and risk management. Intern must clear a security background check and follow department policies and procedures.

Length of Internship: Flexible

April 1 for Summer session
August 1 for fall session
November 1 for winter session

Note:  This internship is unpaid
