Open to Upper-level Undergraduate Students


Location:  Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) – St. Cloud

Internship Description: The intern will gain a general understanding of the functioning and operation of a correctional facility, with particular focus on security needs and special issues of incarcerated men. Interns will have the opportunity to work with male offenders both individually and in a group setting on issues pertaining to the offender's re-entry into the community.

Interns will also work closely with community agencies, such as half-way houses and treatment centers to obtain current information for offenders' release plan. Opportunities exist for interns to participate in assisting offenders to develop vocational plans to apply during their incarceration and to help offenders prepare for various vocational/educational opportunities upon their release.

Supervision: Interns will be supervised by the Corrections Transition Program Coordinator.

Requirements: Interns should be upper-level undergraduate students (generally seniors) or upper-level undergraduate students in corrections, social work or a related field at an accredited college or university which offers course credit for internships. All interns must clear a security check.

Length of Internship: 1 or 2 semesters (400-400+ hours), flexible

Application priority deadline date: 
April 1 for Summer session
August 1 for fall session
November 1 for winter session

Note:  This internship is unpaid
