Work Locations:  Positions may occur at Minnesota Correctional Facilities located in: Faribault, Lino Lakes (Twin Cities Suburbs-North), Moose Lake/Willow River, Oak Park Heights, Red Wing, Rush City, St. Cloud, Shakopee, and Stillwater.

Job Duties:  A correctional health care nurse practices in a primary care setting, much like a clinic.  The Corrections’ nurse is presented with opportunities to use a full battery of nursing skills, along with a broad knowledge of disease processes.  The nurse works closely with other health care providers, including primary care physicians, dentists and physical therapists.  It is essential that the Corrections’ nurse knows when to refer the offender to the primary care provider.  The Corrections’ nurse ensures that the offender receives needed health care in a safe and secure correctional facility environment.

This setting provides a nurse with an opportunity to develop and present health education programs to both offenders and non-medical Corrections’ staff.  The subject areas are varied and could include infectious diseases, psychiatric nursing and treatment of chronic conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:  To qualify, you must be registered in the State of Minnesota as a Registered Nurse.

NOTE:  Please include your license number and the issuance and expiration dates of your current license in your resume or the Job Specific Questions area of the Resume Builder.

You will be asked to provide documentation of your licensure either at the time of interview or the point of hire.

You must pass a pre-employment physical examination, drug and alcohol screening, and tuberculosis screening prior to hire.

Selection Process:  The selection process is a resume-based, skill-matching process. Once you submit your resume to the Resumix applicant database, skill terms are extracted from the text of your resume.  When a vacancy occurs, a resume search is done in the database to locate applicants with the skills needed to perform the duties of the vacant position.  If your skills match the required skills of the position, the department may contact you.

If you have already submitted a resume to the Resumix applicant database within the last 12 months that clearly identifies your RN licensure, you do not need to submit another to be considered.  However, to ensure consideration for a particular vacancy, you are strongly encouraged to apply to the vacancy once you verify that your resume is up-to-date and complete.

How to Apply:  You are strongly encouraged to submit your resume through the online Resume Builder. You may copy and paste in your existing resume or let the software create a resume for you.  You may edit your resume later should your contact information or experience change.  The Resume Builder also collects your work preference information so we can match you with future job openings that meet your interests.

If you wish to apply with a paper copy, submit your application form and typed resume to: Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB), 200 Centennial Office Building, 658 Cedar Street, St. Paul, MN 55155-1603.  Faxed resumes will NOT be accepted.  Your paper application and resume will be entered/scanned by MMB into the Resumix applicant-tracking database and maintained for 12 months or until hired.
