This office is responsible for management of inmate health care delivery systems and administration, as well as providing leadership as the department begins more intensive health care planning and cost-containment efforts. It oversees clinical supervision for medical, nursing, dental care, behavioral health services, mental health services,and supervises the directors of nursing, behavioral health services, and medical, as well as administrative contract managers. The Health Services Unit is also responsible for monitoring the food services vendor contract and providing nutritional guidance to state correctional facilities. The director advises the commissioner, deputy commissioners, and institution heads on policy matters related to the delivery of health care to the inmate population.
